Sun Believable FACE Anti-ageing Tan is my go-to product and is the perfect pick-me-up for days when your skin’s feeling a little dull, lackluster, dehydrated or flat, a good hydrating facial self tan could be just what you need when your moisturiser just isn’t hacking it solo but first let me take you on a little tour of how it all began...

Until the 1920s it was considered undesirable to have a tan – pale skin was seen as a sign of beauty and only those who worked outside had tanned skin. In the 1920’s Coco Chanel brought popularity to the tan when she went on holiday and returned with a sun-kissed glow. Since then, tans have been associated with beauty and health.

How it works:

A natural suntan occurs when the skin is exposed to UVA and UVB rays from the sun.  The skin stimulates the production of a pigment called melanin from melanocytes in the basal layers. These melanocytes spread melanin through the prickle cell layers and a colour is seen on the surface of the skin. This substance is created to protect the skin from damage to the sun by absorbing and scattering the light. As the sun’s rays penetrate the skin, the melanin darkens in colour.

DHA - the magic ingredient.

Whilst everyone was outside, getting a tan from the sun, two German scientists discovered the use of DHA (widely used in X-Rays) as a colouring ingredient for the skin.

In 1950, Eva Wittgenstein researched DHA as an oral drug to help children with glycogen storage disease. When the solution spilled, she noticed skin discolouration and used the solution to help treat Vitiligo, a skin defect that causes white patches of discoloration.

Most Self tan lotions contain DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) and when applied to the skin there is a reaction between this and the amino acids in the upper skin layers. Over the next 1 to 8 hours (depending on the strength or type of DHA used), this reaction produces a temporary browning effect with a similar hue to that of a natural suntan – believe it or not? this is known as the Maillard Reaction. This is not a stain or dye, but rather a natural reaction that produces a colour change on all treated skin.

As the DHA molecules are anchored to the skin surface, the colour cannot be washed off. The tan will only fade in the course of exfoliation that occurs naturally and manually when washing.

Sun-Believable FACE with YOUTH GLOW Technology®

RESTORE, REPLENISH and REVIVE whilst leaving your skin with a healthy looking glow all year round, whatever the weather!

I wanted to develop a product that combines the benefits of a premium, anti-ageing moisturiser with the best in self-tan. It’s your passport to a year-round youthful glow.

Youth Glow Technology® - combines a unique blend of Organic Black Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil and Virgin Plum Oil to help reduce the appearance of fine lines whilst Hyaluronic Acid restores smoothness and hydration to the skin. Your skin will be immediately sun-kissed thanks to the in-built caramel hue, whilst 100% naturally derived and EcoCert tanning ingredients adjust to your natural skin tones for a healthy looking tan that will develop fully in just 2 to 4hrs. Apply evenly to the face, neck and décolleté, in place of your daily moisturiser. For a continuous, natural golden glow apply FACE once every two to three days to develop a deeper colour that suits your personal needs.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) - almost half of the body’s HA is located in the collagen of skin and it is logical that HA plays a vital role here.  Hyaluronic acid helps to retain over a 1000 times its weight in water within the cells of skin, making it an excellent moisturiser.  In fact, no other biological substance can retain as much water as HA resulting in increased smoothness, softening and decreased wrinkles.

Jojoba Oil - This oil is an enigma, since if one looks at the chemical structure; one would expect it to be a wax. Nature’s only liquid wax has some extraordinary properties, since it has the protective power of a wax but with the light emollient softness of oil. It is reported in the literature to alleviate minor skin irritations and to be effective in the treatment of dry and sore skin. Jojoba is good for sebum and is used to control and complement this skin’s natural moisturiser. Jojoba oil has been shown to significantly soften the skin. Jojoba oil may be effective in alleviating the symptoms of psoriasis and in controlling acne outbreaks. It has been used medically for the treatment of burns and sores etc.

Black Seed Oil is obtained from black cumin seeds, which originated more than 3,000 years ago in the kingdom of the Assyrians and ancient Egyptians. Research shows that black cumin seeds contain non-volatile oil. The non-volatile black seed oil is a rich source of polyunsaturated fatty acids including linoleic acid and linolenic acid. An oil, which has properties that can help heal skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dry skin.

Plum Oil is extracted by mechanical means alone, from the kernels of the plums, and is then filtered and treated to remove prussic acid. It is beneficial for dry and mature skin types due to the high amount of oleic (68%) and linoleic (23%) acids that help to renew the complexion and maintain healthy skin. Plum oil is rich in antioxidants, unsaturated fatty acids and vitamins A and E, which play a key role in preventing collagen deterioration and in stimulating skin healing. The oil has a luxurious texture and imparts a silky smooth feel to the skin.

Sun Believable FACE is available in two shades; Medium – for a sun-kissed golden glow on lighter to medium skins or Dark – to provide a deeper, bronze tan for medium to darker skin tones - As well as helping to even out your skin tone;  FACE helps to create the illusion of whiter teeth, it also makes eyes look brighter... the perfect pick-me-up!

The Art Of Apllication

It couldn't be easier, just like applying your daily moisturiser, apply your facial self-tan to clean skin in even, smooth strokes. Start by hitting your t-zone (the forehead and down the bridge of your nose) since that's where the sun naturally hits your face. Move outwards, covering your cheeks and chin in a quick motion to create an even look. Be sure to move down from your chin and jaw line to your neck and collarbone, as you want to blend your face coverage with your body. Always wash hands after application.
